Cardamom Ginger Tulsi Tea

brrrr..., it feels like 9 below zero (-22 deg C), thanks to the Artic Freeze in the US due to the Polar Vortex shift. So here is something to keep you warm on these brutally cold days. Inspired from 'Panakam' which is usually served after a religious service or after a prayer meeting in Indian homes and temples. Panakam is usually served cold. I am doing a cold weather version to help us ride thru this brutal cold temperatures. It will also serve as a winter infection buster tea with ginger, tulsi and black pepper.

  • Filtered water - 3 cups
  • Cardamom - 6
  • Fresh ginger - 1 Tbs (grated)
  • Black pepper - 10
  • Dried Tulsi - 2 tsp (or a bunch of fresh leaves)
  • Coconut palm sugar or raw honey - to sweeten

  • Crush black pepper and cardamom coarsely using coffee/spice grinder.
  • Add everything (except sweetener) to sauce pan and bring to boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Sieve into cups. Sweeten and Enjoy!
  • Makes 2 servings.
